Unlocking better transport choices

I’m Laura, founder of Wayfinder Labs. Let’s work together to realise the full potential of streets in your community.

Vision

Everyone has convenient access to safe and healthy transport.

Mission

I started Wayfinder Labs with the mission of unlocking better transport choices by guiding the development of solutions that deliver the breadth of benefits that streets can offer to all users.

The Wayfinder Approach

I will partner with you to develop interventions that improve the quality of life for all street users. It starts with a vision and getting clear about the impact you want to have on the lives of your community. We will apply a systems lens to identify and prioritise interventions and collaborations that realise the full value of the street across a range of stakeholders and beneficiaries. I will help you communciate a clear narrative that garners the support you need to deliver better choices for transport and streets.

Done-with-you Strategy

I will facilitate and guide you and your stakeholders through a series of workshops to shape up and prioritise project options that maximise benefits to all users. You retain ownership of the project, while I build your capacity to develop solutions that get buy-in.

User Research

I will scope, plan, conduct and report on research to understand problems and barriers facing users; as well as their needs in designing options they can benefit from. Methods include ethnography, quantitative (survey) research, focus groups, observational research and literature reviews.

Equity Assessment

Does your project benefit everyone? I can assess the equity of project options by bringing together user research with designated benefits to understand how options perform in relation to different user needs.

“My PhD explored the influence of urban design on public transport use. It taught me that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts when it comes to the built environment. Yet for all that design can do, social norms hold a powerful key to travel behaviour.”

About Dr Laura Aston

I work as a consultant to help professionals, businesses, advocacy organisations and individuals turn ‘unfamiliar’ ideas into transport options that delight the people who use them. I have 10 years’ experience working as a transport planner in the public and private sector. I hold a PhD from Monash University for research that examined the influence of the build environment on travel behaviour.
